Harbr believes that every child needs a mentor to help them achieve their full potential. Harbr also believes that mentoring is a skill that needs to be taught throughout all levels of business and education.

So why does every child need a mentor?

  • To improve demeanour, attitude & engagement
  • To improve relationships with family, peers & teachers
  • To develop thinking concerning their positive career path
  • To be better prepared to navigate their next transition successfully

Harbr recently partnered with Every Child Needs a Mentor to provide an opportunity for employees to build leadership skills while giving back to the local community.  The training provided by Every Child Needs a Mentor prepared Harbr employees to mentor students at Wapping High School, located just a few blocks away from our corporate headquarters in London.

Today we launch this innovative mentoring and leadership development program to transform the lives of young people and build leadership skills for Harbr employees as mentors.

The training we have received with Hermann and ECNM has helped me think in different ways. To really listen and support a young mentee requires skills we don’t practice enough in our lives and at work. In our professional lives, we are programmed to celebrate our skills and knowledge but my training as a mentor has taught me to value the ideas of humility and empathy. We are about to start the mentoring journey and I hope to both support the development of a young person and learn to become a better colleague and leader.

— Martin Yong, Creative Director at Harbr

Tiffany Ingram, the coaching and mentoring lead at Wapping High School, believes that coaching and mentoring is a key facet of education in order to promote confidence, decision making, and problem-solving skills. Wapping currently has an in-house coaching program and is always looking for new opportunities to work with external agencies to support their students.

We’re really excited to have the opportunity to work with Every Child Needs a Mentor and, of course with Harbr. Our young people have been really excited as well to have this opportunity.

With remote learning and the impact of COVID-19 on schools, Wapping High School is going the extra mile to maintain engagement with students. WHS regularly contacts families at home to make sure they feel valued and supported. In addition to live lessons, they also host a Celebration Assembly every week, to discuss the “topic of the week” and to showcase student’s work. The assembly also provides a platform to discuss mental health, wellbeing, and how to maintain high academic standards from home.

Coaching and mentoring will help give students the opportunity to grow their skills and confidence to become our next generation of leaders. This is a fantastic opportunity for Harbr and we are excited to help make an impact in our community.
